Why Join NOMAD?
Joining NOMAD options up a bunch of great opportunities for you to experience and get involved in rural health while studying at Deakin. Here's some of the reasons:
- Help to make a difference in reducing the rural health workforce shortage.
- Experience and learn about rural and indigenous cultures, and improve your clinical skills
- Conference support - we're often able to provide financial support to attend rural health-related conferences. Just this year we've been able to send ten people to either the Rural Health Alliance conference in Cairns, or the NHRSN national conference (also in Cairns!)
- Rural High School Visits are organised regularly, which gives us the chance to promote health careers to these kids and having a lot of fun while we're there!
- We can occasionally send members to indigenous festivals in Victoria and Australia, to get involved and promote health career options.
- Social functions where you can network and share ideas with other people interested in rural health.
- Get information on rural career paths.
- Other ideas are currently being workshopped to promote health and health careers in rural areas.
- Exclusive secret access to something on this site I haven't thought of yet but it'll be awesome.
As a member you can get involved as much or as little as you like! We will keep you informed of upcoming events and opportunities, you choose what you'd like to attend or apply for.
We're looking at the possibility of having a role in representing student's interests with regard to rural placements and experiences, accomodation there, etc - we'd love to hear your views on this.
For those people wishing to get more involved, we love hearing ideas from members on new and innovative ways to get out there and make a difference! We have the drive and resources to really make good ideas happen. For those members wishing to get on the NOMAD committee, elections are happening very soon! See the elections page for more details.
